Week 1 reflection

My first week of Senior Project was a success. I have learned many things both as a student and a teacher. As a teacher, one is always learning alongside their students, simply to be able to teach. Learning about conflicts between Africa and the United States with Culture and Conflict, or simply reading the same books alongside the students in both Intro to Lit and Athletes in Lit, to be able to have conversations about them in class as well as creating activities,  are just a few examples of how I learn alongside the students.

I truly enjoyed attending classes and seeing the dynamic of each block unfold. For Athletes in Lit, which is such a small class, it is calm and easy to manage and has a more open schedule. For both Intro classes, they are full of wild freshmen and there must be set tasks to do or else they will never get work done. Culture and Conflict being an honors class, it is easy to have lengthy conversations and arguments about the book with and they are able to be left alone to work on papers or projects. This has been something I did not expect, to be so drastically different, yet fun.

For the week ahead, I plan to be more involved in the planning of class as well as making activities on my own. This will help me be more engaged with the topics each class is learning. I am sure it will be just as fun and more challenging than this past week. I already have a task to work on tonight, that will give the week a great start. I am creating a doc with Mel, including all our goals and plans for the week as well as creating questions for an Intro to Lit Gimkit on 57 Bus. All my senior project goals are being met and although I am learning about teaching, I am also learning about the english, with writing, reading and reflecting on my past classes and works, just as I did on Friday with my college essay. I am excited to start again tomorrow and keep learning.
